Key to men’s sex drive – sunshine, fish oil and meat?

It has been an odd week for comments about sex drive. Argentine’s President, Cristina Fernandez, says it is all down to eating more pork. Now the latest research says men’s testosterone rises in conjunction with Vitamin D. The main sources include the sun, oily fish and some meats. I would write more but the sun’s out so I thought I would sunbathe, basted in fish oil and throw a steak on the Barbie…might add some pork sausages too.

Researchers at the Medical University of Graz in Austria found that levels of testosterone, the male sex hormone, in men's blood rise accordingly with doses of Vitamin D.

The vital nutrient is produced in the body after exposure to sunlight and is also contained in oily fish and meat.

A spokesman for the Sunlight Research Forum in Veldhoven, in the Netherlands, said: “Men who ensure their body is at least sufficiently supplied with Vitamin D are doing good for their testosterone levels and their libido among other things.”
